“Metàfora will always be like a second home away from home. A home that pushes you in the right direction”
Melle Skärfstad, Sweden
Our founders and their mission
Metàfora was founded in 1999 by Jette Bjerg and Carles Ramos.
Inspired by their training at Universitat de Barcelona, Goldsmith’s College, London and the Royal Academy in Copenhagen, they designed Metàfora as a creative hub, an art factory with two different lines of work: studio arts and art therapy.
After 25+ years of experience our mission is clear: Metàfora’s core objective is quality teaching and individual attention to our students.
Every year we welcome around 45 studio arts students, as well as several large groups of art therapy students, without loosing sight of this goal.
At Metàfora, we are guided by principles that affirm dignity, creativity, and coexistence:
Non-violence.
At Metàfora, we reject all forms of physical, verbal, and structural violence and abuse. We are committed to fostering dialogue, understanding, and peaceful interaction.
Freedom of expression and identity
Metàfora believes that every individual has the right to express their identity—creatively, culturally, and personally—without fear of censorship or discrimination, while upholding a profound respect for others in all forms of communication.
Equality and inclusion
Diversity is not only respected but celebrated as a vital source of strength and perspective.
At Metàfora, we stand for equal rights and opportunities regardless of gender, race, ethnicity, or sexual identity.
Climate and ecology
We believe that the climate crisis is an urgent and shared responsibility. We are committed to practices that respect and protect the environment and promote sustainability in all our activities. We also seek to distance ourselves from anthropocentric attitudes, recognizing that human life is part of a broader ecosystem that must be respected, not dominated.
Rejection of war-promoting governments and ideologies
We strongly reject and distance ourselves from governments and political actors that initiate, justify, or perpetuate war, aggression, or any form of oppression. We oppose the normalization of violence as a political tool and stand for peace, accountability, and respect for human life across all borders.
THIS IS NOT JUST WHERE YOU STUDY ART.
It’s where you make it.
