The program structure
The studio arts program has two levels, each designed as a year long course.
Students can join several times every year, both for long and short term stays.

01 Foundation program in Studio Arts
Metàfora’s Foundation Program introduces students to contemporary art through hands-on experimentation with painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, and other media.
Students choose from a range of elective workshops while dedicating time to developing their own artistic practice in their studios. They also have opportunities to exhibit their work in galleries around Barcelona.
This program provides excellent portfolio preparation for further studies in visual arts.
Application and Portfolio
No previous artistic experience, portfolio, or knowledge of contemporary art history is required to apply.
02 Certificate in Studio Arts
Metàfora’s Certificate in Studio Arts builds on the first year, encouraging students to develop their own artistic language and challenge themselves conceptually.
The program culminates in a graduation exhibition at a Barcelona gallery, curated by a visiting professional curator in collaboration with the students.
Direct Entry to the Second Year
Applicants must have previous foundation-level training in visual arts and have a good understanding of contemporary art of the past 40 years.
